Item recommendations

I wanted to use the blog today to recommend some items I have used for travel.

I like to take my own shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash.  I use to just go to Walmart and purchase the dollar travel size clear plastic bottles.  They were hard plastic and I always found it hard to access the product once it was low.  Plus they always leaked.  I found these new 3oz travel bottles that are wonderful.  They are soft plastic - leak proof - and have a loop to hook or a suction to attach to the shower wall.  I highly recommend them.  I actually purchased the hook ones for the large bottles (I was a little worried about the suction holding if the bottle was full) and then a set of 3 smaller bottles with a suction.  They are a little more expensive than the dollar bottles but work much better.

Walmart has in the travel bottle section a bag with a toothbrush and toothpaste.  It is in a really nice plastic bag that zips and unzips.  I buy a new one each trip.  I just place it in my carry on so I can freshen up on the plane.  I make sure to buy two different colors so I know which is mine and which is my husbands. I believe it is only a dollar or a little over a dollar.  It looks like this and is great.

I use quart or gallon size baggies for medicines.

I always take two sets of ear buds just in case one gets lost or broken.  I have the app called Whitenoise on my phone and it is absolutely wonderful.  I also have a inexpensive eye mask so that I can put my ear buds in - turn on the Whitenoise app - place the eye mask on and sleep.  I cannot sleep with the TV on but my husband cannot sleep without the TV.  This solves both our problems.  I can't hear the TV with the Whitenoise app and the mask blocks the lights on the TV.

We will be in Ireland for 6 nights.  I guarantee you it will rain at least once during that time.  It might also rain in Venice.  I hate getting wet.  I always pack a travel umbrella. I go with a small compact one for easy transport.

If you have not purchased your travel adapters yet I highly recommend ones that can accommodate multiples and have built in USB chargers.  They are a little more expensive but I feel worth it to have at least one.

SHOES  - They need to be comfortable .  Throughout the trip you will be doing quite a bit of walking.  Don't buy a new pair for the trip.  You will be very sorry.  When your feet hurt - your entire body hurts.

Wipes - I take a couple travel size wipes.  They have multiple uses.  I use them to take off my makeup on the plane and freshen up certain personal areas.  I use them as napkins in restaurants because I have been to restaurants in Europe where it seems napkins are a rare commodity.  I use then in the bathrooms where at times toilet paper seems to also be a rare commodity.  I always have them on me.  I buy one pack just for my face and then a couple antibacterial for the other uses.

Tums - Your body will react differently overseas to certain foods.  It might be the ingredients or the way the food is prepared.   With that said - don't forget anti-diarrhea medicine either.  As well as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

You will deal with coins more in Europe because the lowest bill is a 5 Euro.  Make sure you have something to carry the coins and yet have easy access.  I always carry an inexpensive coin purse.

I normally carry a travel size flat iron but decided for this trip to try and find a normal size that is dual voltage.  I ordered this one on Amazon and I really like it.  It is light weight too.  And the best part is that it is less than $20.
