Some common sites in both Ireland and Italy are the Churches (Basilicas). You have spectacular Basilicas and Cathedrals throughout both countries. My favorite is San Marco (St. Marks) in Venice. I wanted to take this post to remind everyone that a dress code is required for these places.
My mother and I went to Israel a couple years back on a group tour. I will never forget the first day this young lady (about 23) traveling with her mother showed up in a tank top and shorts. The tour guide explained to her that her dress was unacceptable and she would not be aloud in any of the churches. If you have ever been on a tour in Israel you soon find out that churches are about 75% of the tour. She laughed about it and borrowed a scarf from her mother to wrap around her waist and leggs. Then she had to borrow something from another person for her shoulders. The thing I will never forget is she showed up the next day and the following days after that still wearing tank tops.
If you are planning on touring the churches then remember to dress with your shoulder's and legs covered. Wear capri's, pants, or a skirt instead of shorts. Take a scarf for your shoulders if you plan to wear something sleeveless. Ireland will probably be too cold for shorts but Italy should be warm enough. Save the shorts for the days you don't plan to visit a church.
We travel a lot and I still forget sometimes. When we were in Cambodia it was unbelievably hot and humid. I didn't think about it and threw on a tank top and didn't grab my scarf. While we were touring Angkor Wat I was not able to go into one area because my shoulder's were bare.
I remember when we were in Nigeria the women there dress very conservative. I had a top on that was cut a little low but by our standards not risqué at all. However I had several woman come up to me and pull up my top so as not to show any cleavage. I have learned since then to research acceptable dress whenever we visit a new country.
Anyway - that is my thought for today.
