Baggage Allowance

When I get a question from someone I like to share the answer in case others have the same question.  So the topic is weight and size of baggage.  I am going to include the airlines that people have booked thus far:

Overall when CHECKING a bag the rule for most airlines is maximum dimensions of 62 inches with the total length, width, and height combined.   So what does this mean.  You measure all three and add them up.  So this could be a 26 X 26 X 10 bag, ,or it could be a 30 X 20 X 12 bag, etc. 

(NOTE:  Try to go with luggage that is lightweight - otherwise you are wasting precious pounds)

Now let's go airline by airline:

United Airlines:   
Checked bag - max 62 inches and 50 pounds. 
Carry-on bag - no weight limit but must be no larger than 9 X 14 X 22
Personal item - no weight limit but must be no larger than 6 X 13 X 17

Air Canada:     
Checked bag - max 62 inches and 50 pounds
Carry-on bag - no weight limit but must be no larger than 9 X 15.5 X 21.5
Personal item - no weight limit but must be no larger than 6 X 13 X 17

WestJet:          
Checked bag - max 62 inches and 50 pounds
Carry-on bag - no weight limit but must be no larger than 9 X 15 X 21
Personal item - no weight limit but must be no larger than 6 X 13 X 16

Aer Lingus:       
Checked bag - depends on what you purchased.  If it came with the ticket you booked it is max 20K mag which is 44 pounds. They don't say anything about size.  If you purchase a 15K bag then you have a max of 33 pounds

Carry-on bag - 10K which is 22 pounds and must be no larger than 9 X 15.5 X 21.5
Personal item - no weight limit but must be no larger than 8 X 10 X 13

Norwegian Air:
Checked bag - max 88 inches and 20K which is 44 pound
Carry-on bag - no weight limit but must be no larger than 9 X 15.5 X 21.5
Personal item - they do not really say

Ryan Air:                
Checked bag - max 62 inches and it depends on what you purchased.  If you purchase a 15K bag then you have a max of 33 pounds

Carry-on bag - 10K which is 22 pounds and must be no larger than 8 X 16 X 22
Personal item - no weight limit but must be no larger than 8 X 8 X 14
